KAFOC in its primary programming gives focus to addressing root causes of child poverty and adversity across its three life stages of 0-24 years using curative and preventive approaches. Therefore, KAFOC embraced the CHILDFUND theory of change aimed at attaining healthy and secure infants (0-5 years); Educated and confident children (6-14 years); Skilled and involved youths (15-24 years). The Programs are aimed at alleviating child DEPRIVATION, EXCLUSION and VULNERABILITY under the following life stages. In all our programming, we ensure that child rights are observed and maintained for them to enjoy their lives meaningfully.
Life Stage 1 (0-5 years) Healthy and Secure infants
KAFOC strives to ensure that children before they are born, their health is taken care of through interventions that address the pregnant mother and the unborn baby through:
- Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIVAIDS (PMTCT)
- Sensitisation on antenatal care
- Child nutrition
- Breastfeeding
- Hygiene and sanitation
- Growth monitoring
- providing psycho social support to children from families affected by HIV/AIDS.
- mobilize communities for immunization and facilitate immunization outreaches.
All children in this life stage are protected and supported to have equal opportunities realise their rights and develop their full potential through early childhood development program.
Life Stage 2 (6-14 years) Educated and Confident Children
KAFOC gives focus to more than 12 Government Aided primary schools within its area of operation through the following activities:
- Improving access to educational materials through NIE (Newspaper in Education)
- Safe Water and sanitation to prevent water borne diseases among school going children through TIVA and Impact water tanks, water harvesting tanks, cleaning tools for the sanitation school clubs.
- Peer education in schools and the community to sensitise children on sex education and Life skills.
- Text books of different subjects distributed in the supported schools mainly to improve the performance of children.
- Desks to improve children's sitting in the classrooms and promote Cleanliness and better handwritings.
- Sports Equipment for games and sports to promote children's talents and physical fitness among children.
- Provision of sanitary towels to young girls to manage emergencies that may occur on a monthly basis in order for them to fully attend schools through the school duration.
- Promotion of child advocacy through support in the formation and formalization of child rights clubs so as to create a platform for the children to contribute to their wellbeing.
Life stage 3 (15-24 years) Skilled and Involved Youth
Youth need to be engaged in productive and meaningful employment. therefore, KAFOC supports youth with the following:
- Vocational training for out of school enrolled youths in their preferred choice of course including training materials
- Life skills to build confidence in the youths.
- Basic entrepreneur skills where youths are trained in business handling and sustenance.
- VSLA to improve and promote on the saving culture among youth.
- Micro enterprise development
- Peer education for youth in and out of school in communities (Including Sexual Reproductive health)
- Income generating projects to enable the youths have sustainable incomes.
- Start-up tools are given to youths after vocational skills training according to their areas of study.
